Applying to Run in 2019
Eligibility for guaranteed entry to the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon will be available to members of the groups listed below. In order to claim your guaranteed entry, you must submit your application in My NYRR and pay the entry fee during the application window, which will be in early 2019 (dates to be announced). Guaranteed entries not claimed during this time period will be forfeited.
Entrants Through the 9+1 or 9+$1K ProgramNYRR members who meet the 9+1 or 9+$1K program requirements during 2018 will be eligible to apply for guaranteed entry to the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon during the application window. Requirements for handcyclists seeking entry under this provision are expected to be the same as for the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon.
Entrants Who Officially Cancel Their Entry to the 2018 TCS New York City MarathonEntrants who officially cancel their entry to the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon according to the cancellation guidelines will be eligible for guaranteed non-complimentary entry to the 2019 race.
Entrants who cancel their entry in consecutive years are not eligible for guaranteed entry after the second consecutive cancellation.
Handcyclists and other AWDs entered in the 2018 race through Achilles International who cancel will not be eligible for guaranteed entry to the 2019 race unless entered by Achilles International in that race.
Runners Who Have Completed 15 New York City MarathonsRunners who finish their 15th New York City Marathon will continue to be eligible for guaranteed entry in future years. This entry method is not available to handcycle applicants and other AWDs entered in past races through Achilles International.
Time QualifiersThe time-standard qualifying window for the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon is January 1–December 31, 2018. The time-qualifying standards, listed below, are for runners only. All applicants who meet the time standards at the following NYRR races in 2018 will be eligible for guaranteed entry in 2019: 2018 NYRR Fred Lebow Manhattan Half, 2018 United Airlines NYC Half, 2018 SHAPE Women's Half-Marathon, 2018 Popular Brooklyn Half, 2018 NYRR Staten Island Half, and 2018 TCS New York City Marathon.
A limited number of time-qualifier spots will be available to runners who meet the time standards in a non-NYRR race. These spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants who apply with a non-NYRR race qualifying time will be placed in the non-guaranteed entry drawing until their time can be verified. Verification will be completed prior to the 2019 drawing. Those who apply with a non-NYRR race qualifying time after the number of spots available has been reached will be placed in the non-guaranteed entry drawing.
All times run must be at least as fast as the posted time. Net (chip) time, not gun time, will be evaluated:

About the Time StandardsThe TCS New York City Marathon is known for being an extremely diverse race, and at New York Road Runners, we pride ourselves on offering many methods by which runners can gain entry. We intend for our time standards to offer equal access to our most competitive applicants across all age categories and to allow the highest possible percentage of runners from each category to earn guaranteed entry into the TCS New York City Marathon.
