Runner of the Year Awards

Awards are given annually to the top men’s and women’s teams. Visit New York Area Running Clubs for information about declaring a club affiliation, as well as club scoring and awards.

At NYRR’s annual Club Night celebration, we present awards to our Runners of the Year (overall and for each age group) and top teams, and runners/teams in other special categories. The Awards Committee is comprised of NYRR staff members and team representatives from the local running community. To be eligible for these awards, a runner must be a member of NYRR for at least six months of the calendar year, including at the time of nomination, and must complete at least six fully scored NYRR races across a range of distances in the calendar year. (Track races are not included.) If you change age groups during the year, you’re considered part of the age group that you were in for the majority of the year.

For each age category, Runner of the Year candidates are ranked according to their best performances throughout the year. These rankings, through the top 20 in each age group, are reviewed by the Awards Committee, with special consideration made for head-to-head competition and performances at a range of distances. The Fred Lebow Runner of the Year Awards are given to the male and female runners who have exhibited the most consistently superior performances over a variety of races and distances.
